Art Is Life

As I mentioned in my previous post, so much is new this year and continues to change. I’m excited to finally have some help with getting work done on my designing. Between the day job and it being just myself working hard on collections and etc, all the help I can get is much appreciated.

With all the changes comes another small change. Last night I finally got this tattoo I have been planning for years. There would have been more ink in the one night , but unfortunately Miquel my new tattoo artist did not have the time to do everything we talked about, so now the wait and anticipation is on for the next tat.

Ars longa vita brevis. The first few lines to a Hippocrates quote where he is generally speaking of medical practices, but literally translates in english to “Art is long, Life is brief”. He was reminding us that what we do, what we create, lasts much longer than our own lives. This quote is brought up in a lot of art discussions despite its initial connection to the medical field. Well in reality art is connected to everything. Art is in everything we do, and it is so exciting to be in a time where there is a new found respect and understanding for art and the people who create it. Art has been used by so many people in different fields to inform and teach us, and for so much of its history art in itself and the artists have endured persecution in so many ways. I can easily go on but then I would be losing focus of what this tattoo represents. I will never forget the first time I heard this quote sitting in a Dutch Art History class because it is exactly all I’ve ever had a desire for. All I have ever wanted is to create something that was impactful enough to out last my own life. We are on this earth for a fleeting moment, and we do not always realize how everything has a lasting effect. I want to be sure that in my fleeting opportunities I make the biggest dent I am capable of making. Here is to wishing hard work pays off in the near future.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Passion Rocks event! It was definitely a pleasure to be a part of and to work with Tiffany from so far away.

Is This A Mad Lib

This is it. This is the year of many new things. I know we are near the end of the third month of the year, but so many changes I have yet to mention. So much exciting positive energy is in the air! It’s like a new Glee episode every day and it’s only the start of the year!

New:

*Moved to West Hollywood at the end of January (there will be a house-warming eventually)

*New Roommate Ms Cynthia Chan

*Started work as a Bridal Consultant with Kirstie Kelly at the beginning of February

*New Car New Car New Car! at the beginning of March (for those who dont know I was really in need of a new car for a very long time)

*Come see http://www.passionsfruitevents.com/ April 16th!

*New consignment opportunities at work and I will give you more deets when it is complete.

I feel really blessed and as though this is going to be my year if I take control of it and work harder than ever. For a few years now I have sacrificed my social life to show myself self control and refocus my attention where I needed it to be. I believe that was just training to prepare myself for the control and perseverance I really need. This year will be full of suprises with new beginnings both personal and professional. There is not much more I need in life, but I know the road is not over yet.

Occasionally I hear good thoughts and encouragement from friends and family. It may seem unnecessary to show support and send me messages, but I appreciate them more than I can say. Your thoughts and words always come at the right moment when I need a little extra faith. It makes me feel so appreciated to know someone believes in me or loves something I have created. Please keep sending your love!

The Hustler’s Eye

There is this natural instinct to survive, and not to just survive but to rein. The problem is as time goes by life becomes comfortable and occasionally people forget or become too lazy to remain aware of their surroundings. In some cases a person never knows anything other than that comfort and when faced with an obstacle their response is to ignore reality. No matter how much you succeed, when you become unaware of the reality of your situation you risk losing it all.

Part of understanding your reality is observing the people around you. Without a doubt there are people whom draw negative energy. At times there are people who, may not even realize it, judge so harshly and their only position in life is to see the negative over the positive. These people will only see the bad and there is no way to change their perspective, because the more you try the more negativity they generate.

That’s when you get up and walk away.

No Fear.

Mad Love

Something big is in the air. You know how sometimes you can just smell change, and its in the air of everything you do before something really big happens. Thats how November has felt. Or maybe its the air of the holiday season approaching? Which ever it is, its amazing.

I am looking forward to a lot of new ness and creativity to be. In the mean time I’m feeling the love.

Happy Feet

Woohoo! Pin Show images are up: http://amberelizabeth.us/section/92550_Spring_2010.html be sure to check them out. Just got back from working Dallas Market and was very happy to see my images were available. Much love to the Models and Photographer Jeremy Reitman. Next step more product for GMGstyle and then Atlanta Market. I love hearing from everyone, and I do mean everyone, models, friends, family, fans. So keeping sending love and encouragement because it is much appreciated.

Whats the newest thing that has happened besides The Pin Show? I suppose that would be the new gig. A few different opportunities I entertained the idea of until the right one came along, and so far its been perfect. I love connecting with different people on a professional level and being able to pick brains. Speaking of picking brains, I need someone who can write and write well. If you or someone you know enjoys writing get in contact with me at amber@amberelizabeth.us to discuss putting together a bio for me and a few small projects. Nothing too elaborate, but definitely needs an edge to it.

Im looking forward to doing more, seeing more, providing more, and being more.

Love.

A Little Tickle

Q & A with Amber Elizabeth.

Q: How important is it for a designer to have a fashion-related degree?

A: The more people I meet, in fashion design and nearly any field, the less a degree maters. It’s great to have a degree of some kind, but the degree does not dictate the field you will work in. Many people who work in fashion have a business degree, and Ive even had a few mention a science degree. Experience is what matters, and passion.

Q: What inspired you to become a designer?

A: It’s funny when I think about it. Did I fight this path? Because everyone was like “finally!” when I started on this route. I think Ive tried more fashion trends than anyone I know, especially in high school I tried everything, punk, prep, grunge. I have always been intrigued by fashion and anything that involved creating with my hands, so it was a natural path I couldnt avoid.

Q: Whats the most important thing to consider when designing a garment?

A: Fit. If the fit doesnt work then the visual appeal of everything will be off. You can have something completely bland, but if the fit is right it looks amazing.

Q: How do you keep people interested in fashion during an economic recession?

A: By local! haha.. its engraved into my memory by the great girls at Make Shop in Oak Cliff, Tx, but its very true. Shop Indie and Shop Local. You’ll stimulate your local economy and the independent designers in your area. Buy the unique items that will give your outfit that extra touch, and cant be found anywhere in the mall (gross mass production).

Q: Describe an ideal Saturday morning to-night.

A: Breakfast omelets at the 50′s cafe Ive been dieing to try a couple streets from my studio with great company and conversation. Then the afternoon either at the beach or The Getty relaxing, brainstorming, creating new ideas, and stimulating art. The evening Ill keep to myself, but its not spent out at a bar or club.

Q: What single thing would improve your quality of life?

A: Love. Not to say I dont have love, but you can never have too much.

Q: Describe yourself in one word.

A: Can I use two? Hot Mess. Ha! Ive been told Im in my essence when there’s a mess around me. I look like I have no idea whats going on around me, but in reality Im very aware of what Im doing. Im glad people who really know me realize this, but for those of you who think Im clueless give me a chance because you have another thing coming!

Pulling It Off

What have you missed. A month of industrious sewing, working at the Magic trade show, a studio full of independent designers hustling to prepare for a show, the hard work of everyone shown at The Pin Show, and a photo shoot for GMGstyle. Now Im taking a couple days to breath, and then beginning a new job where I will have the opportunity to learn business from a different angle.
I cant wait to show off the pictures from The Pin Show, but you will have to wait a couple weeks for that. I hope everyone enjoyed The Pin Show because there was a lot of effort put into by the team and the designers. Julie and Rachel you are wonderful, and we love you for your hard work.

I do have a few behind the scenes pictures from the shoot over the wknd for GMGstyle, but you can see the final results by April at GMGstyle.com.

The boys and Ada’s hard work was amazing, and I cant wait to see the final images, not to mention the cover of the magazine is going to be phenomenal! Liz and Thomas were great models to work with as well, and a pleasure to spend the day with.

Oh and btw Im Blonde again. Love.
